Karla received her Bachelors of Social Science from the University of Ottawa in 2002, with a dual degree in Psychology and Criminology. She continued her studies at the University of Ottawa, and completed her Common Law Degree in 2005. While attending law school Karla was actively involved in the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic, as a caseworker in both the Criminal and Landlord and Tenant divisions, as well as being a Division Leader and member of the Steering Committee.
Following law school, Karla articled with a mid-sized Ottawa law firm, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2006. After becoming a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada she practiced in the Greater Toronto Area for several years, specializing in all matters relating to family law.
She returned to Ottawa in 2008, to study the Civilian legal system (Quebec) and obtained her Civil Law Degree from the University of Ottawa in 2009.
Karla continues to focus her practice on family law and has a great deal of experience dealing with matters such as child custody, access, child support, spousal support and property related issues. She has experience negotiating settlements, drafting domestic contracts, litigating, and with various forms of alternative dispute resolution.
Karla is currently a volunteer with Pro Bono Law Ontario’s Child Advocacy Project and is in the process of being accredited as a Family Law Mediator.
