Emily Comor

Emily Comor is a family law lawyer with more than 25 years of experience. She has represented children as a panel member with the Office of the Children’s Lawyer for over 20 years.  Emily is also a trained and dedicated Mediator and Collaborative Practice lawyer.

Emily is keenly aware and concerned about the impact of family conflict on children and, as a long-standing member of the Ottawa High Conflict Forum, she regularly presents at the U. of Ottawa Law School and elsewhere on this topic. This lens informs her legal practice as her focus includes ensuring that the process of resolving the various issues arising from a separation is one that alleviates uncertainty, manages expectations and provides an optimistic future for the restructured family.

Collaborative Practice is a proven means to this end.  The client-led team approach inherent to this model ensures that clients are heard by the professionals and by each other while ensuring that they are informed and supported through the process. Client interests are determined and options generated with the aim of meeting each parties’ goals as individuals and within the new family structure.  The result is an enduring resolution crafted by and for the clients.

In addition to her professional commitments, Emily is a devoted mother of two remarkable young adults and a dedicated community volunteer. She is a member and past-President of the Board of Directors at Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre and previously served on the Boards of Harmony House women’s shelter and The Children’s Place Child Care Centre. She was also the manager of her son’s competitive basketball team for many years.  She loves travel, long hikes, a good novel and the company of family, friends and animals.
