I am fortunate to be one of the lawyers in Ottawa who is actively involved with the local Collaborative practice group. I have been involved with Collaborative Divorce Ottawa (CDO) since 2020, and I am proud to currently be sitting as the President of the CDO Board of Directors.

I knew coming out of law school that I wanted to work with clients experiencing a separation in ways that supported their emotional and practical needs and allowed clients to have agency over their separation. Since being specially trained in Collaborative practice, I have helped many clients work through their separation using the process. I have found that my clients feel more supported and more comfortable with their outcomes. The process does not guarantee success, but it creates space to ensure that what is really important to you is considered throughout the process.

Of course, not every family is going to experience the Collaborative process in the same way, and sometimes a separating family needs to rely on the court system; I have worked with those clients as well, many times. You are not always going to find the best fit for your family in the Collaborative process, but my hope is that people will explore all the dispute resolution options before making the decision to go to court.
